SISTER'S DINNER (DANCE)

I was hired by my sister's school, Gwynnedd Mercy College to make the tickets/invitations for their annual dinner dance. They asked that the invite look like a playing card to go with the 'Casino Royale' theme. Really fast and simple project, no hand drawn text - which feels weird for me. This would look amazing letterpressed.

I can't resist adding this:

GOODIES

I've been very busy working on some new freelance projects, a new website which will be happening in the next couple months, and a new logo for There Will Be Snacks. Some new finished work coming soon. In the meantime, here are some small things from past couple months to hold you over.

'Smooch' greeting card. Images from an old textbook and the urban outfitters catalog.

A drawing from a few weeks ago, from a photo found online. Nice to think of the pool, swimmies, and summer camp while we wait for the springtime. In fact, while snacking on some Cheez-its the other night, I realized this is a smell I associate with little kids. I guess kids just smell like the snacks they eat - unless there is some connection between the ingredients found in Cheez-its and the chemical properties of a young human being.

A sketch done while working on the Rilo Kiley t-shirts. From an old photo from the Moulin Rouge. I hope i can use this for another project sometime.

sausage tv

My friend Christiane is working on a project involving an giant pink stuffed sausage which is to be used in place of a remote control, in order to gather research about families in their homes. It is confusing. She is super stressed out and this sausage project is suffocating her and consuming all her time. So i drew this for her.

She responded with this photo:

Golden Melodies

I just finished this flyer for the Golden Melody Band. They plan to use this logo for designs in the future, too. The show is at Red Poppy Art House next week.

homework help

I made these watercolor drawings to complement a re-use project that my boyfriend Adam was working on for Sustainable Development class. Discarded suitcases would be used to renovate furniture from the waste stream, or in the creation of new furniture using salvaged wood.

Hungry dogs, hungry humans

A quick drawing to advertise Cafe Divine's homemade dog treats. Suitable for canines and humans alike, but catered to a dog's taste buds. The cafe does offer a wide array of delicious cuisine for humans.

Rilo Kiley Ts

Rilo Kiley hired me to design some t-shirts for their new album/tour. The album is a bit different from their previous albums, hence the dance theme (thanks to my friend Maureen who danced up a little storm for reference and inspiration). However, the band decided not to use the designs. You can listen to a few songs on their website www.rilokiley.com

2/29/08:
I noticed that the cover of the new Cat Power record, Jukebox, goes nicely with these shirts. Too bad my designs were rejected by Rilo. Good taste, Cat Power.

gnome trouble flyer

Flyer for the Gnome Trouble performance. Two versions: the off-white background was the original, but Kat thought the black looked better for postcards and posters. The original sketch is below.

Hip-hop bear and golden prince

This is my second costuming job, for Kat Galasso's dance theater piece "Gnome Trouble". It is based on the Brothers' Grimm fairy tale, Snow White and Rose Red. There are five costumes in total, though we had to rent the bear's body suit. I also made the flyer for the performance, which i'll post soon.

Young Turks

I did a drawing of Rod Stewart for every day of the month of May. It wasn't his recent marriage to yet another beautiful blondie that brought about this fixation, but a dusty copy of "tonight i'm yours" i found at Jack's record cellar. The infectious beat of 'young turks' was undeniable. He is cheesy, i know, but after hearing his songs hundreds of times, i still want to listen. I like the sincerity with which he delivers the cheese (and i like to draw that rooster haircut).

the more presentable ones:

getting published

Some of my artwork has been chosen for the 2008 PRINT design annual, which comes out in November. The album art i made last December for SF gypsy jazz band Gaucho, as well as stickers for some merch for The Elected (though i like the t-shirts better).

Costuming

Back in April, my friend Kat Galasso, a modern dancer and choreographer, asked me to design the costumes for her dance-theater piece "Hysterics Anonymous". Despite handmade halloween costumes being the extent of my costuming experience, Kat didn't seem concerned, and the costumes (and the piece itself) proved to be a success. her site: www.catherinegalasso.com In the photos are Marisa Mariscotti and Phoenecia Pettyjohn, who danced in this piece. It was performed at ODC theatre here in San Francisco, April 27 and 28, 2007.
